With the amazing weather, we’re having at the moment and the imminent start of the Tour de France who’s been out on their bike?! I can imagine most people who have a keen interest in cycling have been burning up the tarmac.
Cycling is such a great way to exercise, it’s a very effective form of low weight bearing cardio exercise. It’s a great way to get the whole family involved or to do with a group of friends. You can be as competitive as you like, however, maybe not quite to the level of the Tour de France!
Overuse injuries are the downside to the sport unfortunately, some of the most common injuries that we see from cycling include:
- Back pain
- Hip pain
- Neck pain
- Knee pain
- Hand pain
- Iliotibial band pain
- Burning feet
- Achilles tendon pain
Muscle imbalances, poor technique and incorrect bike set are the main culprits. If you’re a keen cyclist then its beneficial to a get a yearly checkup of your bike set up and an assessment of your posture and strength to ensure there’s no risk of injury occurring! Enjoy the sunshine!
